Scott Mitchell (aka Scotty Franchyze): Wide Receiver, Not the Quarterback
When people search for “Scott Mitchell,” they often see coverage of the former NFL quarterback. That’s not me. I am Scott Mitchell — also known as Scotty Franchyze — the wide receiver, a former professional football player who starred at the University of Kentucky, in the CFL, and in the AFL.
National Media Coverage
My name recently got national attention after I helped stop a suspected arsonist at Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles. That moment was covered in major media sources:
- NBC News: Suspected Los Angeles arsonist on the run tackled by former college football player
- Sports Illustrated: Former Kentucky football player surprises himself chasing down Los Angeles arsonist

Final Word
I am not Scott Mitchell the quarterback. I am Scott Mitchell — aka Scotty Franchyze — the wide receiver. My journey goes beyond the field: from making plays in the CFL and AFL, to representing the University of Kentucky, to stepping up in a moment of crisis at Runyon Canyon that drew national media attention.
I’m grateful for being in the right place at the right time to react to stopping one of my favorite places — Runyon Canyon — from being destroyed. I’m glad that we stopped anyone from being harmed, and I’m looking forward to my next hike.
